If you’re saying in the area around January 2019, you’ll find this region of the country to be quieter. No harm done there. The festivities have ended and everyone is slowly grinding their way back to work and the regular routine. As people take time to rest, the overall community will slow down. This is a perfect time to reflect and bask in the glory of a new year.
One great way to get in touch with reflecting in the new year is by attending the last few days of the Miniature Art Show. The show began back on November 13 of 2018 and concludes its final day on January 12 of 2019. The admission is free, and the art show is help at the MonDak Heritage Centre in Sidney, Montana (120 3rd Avenue SE, Sidney, MT 59280).
The challenge: to create art on pieces that are no large than 5” x 7” on mediums such as oil, watercolour, acrylic, and other mixed media.
Some artists event opt to challenge themselves further by creating some pieces as small as postage stamps.
So what’s the tie-in between ringing in the new year and this miniature art? Well, simple: it is a common belief that what we are drawn to in art is the reflection of things we like best out ourselves and our world. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” so to speak. And more crucially, we repel away from things that reflect the parts we like the least. Food for thought.
Of course, you don’t need to fly all the way out here to get the same effect; any art show will do. However, if you do find yourself in the area, make sure you spend your stay at one of our Stay Astoria locations. Our comfortable rooms, and pool and jacuzzi will be sure to help you extend and stay in your reflective state as you set intentions for this new year.
