When you come to visit Dickinson, North Dakota, you’d be wise to expect the unexpected. Yes, we may be famous for our fascinating dinosaur museum, the larger-than-life statues on our Enchanted Highway, our Scenic Byways and the fact that we’re located right at the gateway to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, but there are plenty of quirky attractions to keep even the most demanding of visitors entertained in Dickinson. Prepare to be amazed…
 

1.  A Winery? In North Dakota?

Yes, it’s true. There are actually a few, believe it or not. One of our favourites has to be the wonderfully-named Fluffy Fields Vineyard and Winery. The tasting room at this family-owned farm winery features daily tastings, draft beer by the jar and a rotating menu that showcases fresh, local ingredients. Grab a glass of wine and hit the patio for sunset – it’s a beautiful spot.
 

2. A Need for Speed

The one-third-of-a-mile oval dirt track at Southwest Speedway is the scene of plenty of thrilling high-octane action. And there’s a great line-up of events to keep speed-freaks both young and old happy. Catch the Regular Race Night on June 2, the Kids’ Night on June 16, the Mid-Season Championships on June 23 and the Sport Mod Tour on June 30.
 

3. Get Folky

Gaze upon lovingly hand-crafted ‘Psyanky’ Easter eggs, breathtaking traditional embroidery and the heritage paintings of early settlers at the Ukrainian Cultural Institute. Don’t miss the chance to sample a ‘varenyky’ or ‘pyrohy’ cheese button while you’re there – and if you’re lucky enough to be visiting in July, you can see the ‘Stepovi Dity’ Ukrainian dancers in their colorful costumes during the Ukrainian Festival.
